The Birth of Metal Detectors Hub

Using maximum sensitivity means ALL metal signals will ring out, including minerals and trash. Experienced detectorists have a range of coils and chose one to suit the area they want to search. An elliptical coil works in just the same way, albeit covers less ground in one swing, but it can reach into small, awkward spaces.

An annual hunt hosted by members of Midstate Metal Detector Club out of Plover draws detectorists from all over the U.S., said club president Steve Miller, who’s been in the hobby since 1971. There are at least five clubs scattered throughout the state that were founded in the glory days of metal detecting and are still going strong. More than 100 years later, John Ruth was living in northern Wisconsin when the urge first hit to pick up his dad’s old metal detector —  the one gathering dust in a far corner.

«Depending on where you go, will depend on what treasure you find!» he said. Along with coins and gold, Lee said brooches and belt buckles were often found, and there was also the chance to stumble across military trash and old gun parts and bullets, if you know where to look. «They are gold mines as you never know what you will find.

You never know what you’ll come across when you’re metal detecting and that’s part of the fun. It might sound obvious but metal is what you’ll find with a metal detector. Beaches are great places for metal detecting because beaches are regularly and actively used by the public. Taking a long slow sweep of your yard with a metal detector is a great place to begin.

You need adjustable sensitivity to pick out the good stuff and not go insane with constant false signals. The standard 8-inch coil is an all-purpose coil that performs well across the board and is best for a beginner. Small coils better suit fast moving water too because they are lighter less likely to get pulled aside in waves and stream drag. A picnic area that’s full of trash is best searched with a smaller coil. Metaldetectorshub.com like to chat with each other, so keep far enough apart maintain a clear signal.

The only real con to using a multi-frequency machine on the beach is that you won’t get the type of depth you would with a PI – although it will still be excellent. If hunting in the wet sand, surf or water, you’ll need a machine that’s either PI or multi-frequency.

A copy of this permit must be in possession of permit holder when using metal detector and permit holder must have photo identification. The Director of Parks and Recreation may approve use of a metal detector in areas where their use is normally prohibited, only upon special arrangement, in cases when a specific item is lost or to assist with official investigations.

The Fisher F70 Metal Detector operates on 13kHz frequency – good for coin shooting, relic hunting, and gold prospecting. Operating with Minelab’s exclusive triple frequency technology the Eureka Gold Metal Detector makes prospecting easier than ever before. It’s got pretty much everything you need for successful detecting such as a large coil, adjustable frequency, and easy-to-switch search modes for ‘coins’ or ‘gold’. The verification procedure ensures that metal detector remains complaint against sensitivity standards and metal detection policies. When implementing a metal detection test procedure, manufacturers must firstly ensure their metal detector meets the required detection standards and are set up within the sensitivity guidelines.

If you’re hunting small, tight areas like playgrounds or very rocky areas like in gold country, then you should consider a smaller coil for better maneuverability. Without getting into too much detail, DD coils will get you better detection depth and deal with ground mineralization better than a concentric. While large coils get better depth, they also see more of the ground which means your detector has to process more signals in mineralized soil which can lead to very bad falsing, poor target ID and missed targets.

The well-known brands offer a range of prices from a few hundred dollars to nearing the thousands and above so something will suit your price. Some of the more popular makes in no particular order include Minelab, Whites, Tesoro, Garrett, and Fisher.
